Until I Found You

Author: Victoria Bylin

Rating: 4

My Opinion

“Until I Found You” was my first Victoria Bylin book, and I was pleasantly surprised. Bylin writes her book on the truth of 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness” (ESV). The book is packed full of emotions and the pain of life. The author does not sugar coat the difficulty of life as a Christian and clearly shows daily temptations, even the most influential Christians face. Only by turning to God, do we find the peace we are longing for. The only critique I would have for this book is that you do not always feel connected to the characters, and you continually root for the end when life is good.

Synopsis

On her way to help her grandmother, Kate Darby swerves to avoid hitting a California Condor. With the lack of guardrails and the slippery roads, her car slides off a cliff. In desperate need of help, she cries out to the one person she has avoided since her father's death - God. When Nick Sheridan passes by the cliff and hears a car horn, he stops to help. Using the knowledge from his past adventures, he climbs down to her rescue and little do they both know, this won’t be the last time. Both fight their feelings for each other, especially since Kate doesn’t understand his faith, and Nick’s promise to God and himself. Will Kate learn to trust someone other than herself and can Nick get over his past mistakes?

WARNING

Nick has struggled with alcoholism in his past life and almost relapses after hard circumstances. He also got a waitress pregnant but his daughter died of a hole in her heart. This book is heavy and has a lot of death and deep emotional scars. Also, if you do not agree with the Christian faith, then I would avoid this book, but if you enjoy a challenging and emotional read - this is for you!
