Holding the Fort (The Fort Reno Series Book 1) Review
Holding the Fort
Author: Regina Jennings
Rating: 3
Synopsis:
Louisa Bell- also known as Lovely Lola- is a dance hall singer for the Cat-Eye Saloon; however, after years of singing the owner fires her for the newer singer. Left with nowhere to go she goes to find her brother who is a cavalry soldier stationed in Indian Territory. Louisa hopes to get a job on the base singing for the men, but when she arrives with books, she is mistaken for the governess for the commanding officer's two daughters. With nothing else to do she takes the job without knowing that she had met the officer the day before. What will happen when the officer finds out her past and what will her brother do when he finds his older sister on the base and invading his commanding officer's house?
My Opinion:
This book was a little shocking because of some of the content; however, for my generation it is not really that bad. I loved the message of this story and the redemption that Louisa, the main character finds in the end from Jesus and the officer. I fell in love with the two daughters and their father, but also the relationship that Louisa and her brother has together. This is one of those book that makes you want to pull out your hair because the characters like to assume the worst without consenting the other which creates a lot of suspense and conflict.
WARNINGS:
Louisa does work in a bar and is called Lovely Lola by the men. She is around drunk men for the beginning of the book. When she gets to the fort she hides her identity to keep her job, but still ends up with the trust of the family.
